According to music broadcaster Rick Phillips, Rossini's work combines the brilliance of opera with the expressive meaning of sacred music. This TMC concert is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy this beautiful, yet rarely performed work. Rossini composed the Petite Messe Solennelle in 1863 and later wrote an orchestration for choir, organ and piano which the TMC is performing. Conducted by Noel Edison, the full TMC will be joined by James Bourne on piano, Andrew Adair on organ, and soloists Lesley Bouza, soprano; Jennifer Enns Modolo, mezzo soprano; Charles Davidson, tenor; and Michael York, baritone.
