A Woman of No Importance

Jan 25 - Feb 9, 2013 | A Woman of No Importance - This is not your great-aunt’s Oscar Wilde! The playwright's trademark bon mots sprinkle this classic comedy, but director Paul Hardy transposes the play to the 1980's instead of 1890's - think "Dynasty"-style big hair and shoulder pads in the era of Margaret Thatcher. England is still a very class-conscious society, and many of the same concerns still apply, 100 years later. “A Woman of No Importance” paints a portrait of the opulent rich and contrasts them with their ironic existential foils. Lord Illingworth is an (im)proper and unmarried English gentleman whose fortune and pedigree make him at home in the upper-crust of the British country gentry. He plans to hire ambitious young Gerald Arbuthnot as his secretary/travelling companion, but Gerald’s modest mother is strongly against the idea for reasons of her own. And secrets will be revealed… PERFORMANCES: Jan 25 - Feb 9, 2013 TIMES: Wed - Sat at 8pm; Sun at 2pm.
